"Degree Show 2003" - UoD (6th - 7th June 2003) The University of Derby's Degree Show 2003 was a chance for all of us LPTer's to show what we could do the public and to prospective students, as the second day formed part of an open day. The Friday night saw two bands and the Saturday saw a selection of bands throughout the day. both days involved a full audio/video/lighting setup. The lighting design was carried out by Stephen Mann and myself, along with input from the production team. due to the nature of the event, and the equipment available, the lighting rig was fairly simple, with the addition of 8 Chroma-Q colour scrollers lent to us by Whitelight North to form a curtain of light behind the lead singer(s). The video side of the event was handled by Michael 'fez' Beaumont and consisted of a two camera shoot and multimedia pc, projection and video relay for the Friday and an additional camera was included on the Saturday. Audio was headed up by Danny Howarth (FOH) and James Lacey (Monitors), and was the first outing of the university's brand new ML3000 mixing desk. The lighting desk was operated by Steve and myself, alternating between camera operation and desk operation. Rather Bizarrely, it took less time to setup and run this event that any of the others, and there were less people.....! "The Final Countdown" - UoD (4th April 2003) This show was the last in a series of scenarios and formed part of the basement for my degree. For this scenario I was the head of the Lighting Team and designed the majority of the lighting rig. This show was a live concert featuring two very different bands, the Naked Apes - a three piece rock/indie band and the Dust Collectors - an unusual collective of musicians playing everything from conventional instruments to a Theramin, saw and a toy bat!!
"The Weakest Lamp" -UoD (Feb. 2003) This was the first of two scenarios that were part of the main assessment for one of my modules. The brief was to produce a pilot TV episode of a new game show. The Game show title was the Weakest Lamp and the format of the show was that 'lampees' would take each other on head to head to find out who has the superior knowledge of lighting. "Blag-o-Tron Mk2" - Uod (Jan 2003) The Blag-oTron Mk2 was a product launch scenario used as an example of implementing show control methods. To start with the show was run through using manual cuing from a show caller and the purpose of the session was to try to advance this to a more automated and repeatable method of show control. Needless to say there was not enough time for us to implement this. "Dynamo" - Cloudbass/ UoD (4th Dec 2002) The first true design that I was a part of was for an open day at the University of Derby. The Show was called Dynamo, and involved members of Cloudbass Multimedia. The lighting design was conceived between Steve Knee (MD-Cloudbass Multimedia), James Lacey (Business Director - Cloudbass Multimedia) Michael Beaumont (Creative Director - Cloudbass Multimedia) and Myself. The show was an evolution of a Modulus, a multimedia show (more details can be found at www.cloudbass.com), which incorporates sound light and video in a giant gazebo made of scaffolding and tri-lite truss. The theme was greens and blues...well mainly blue, and at the time our lighting resources were 18-way dimmers, four Martin Mac 250+, a few Par cans and some Fresnels, but we pulled it off.
